This Mudra goes by other names, but I prefer to call it my “Constant Kriya” because it is a Kriya Meditation you do Constantly all through the day, only resting to otherwise eat, drink, speak, or sleep. This is the surest method to attaining Enlightenment you will ever come across, as it is the surest method of attaining Soul Unification.
The original practice of this is referenced as the Khechari Mudra, which in Sanskrit means Space or the Supreme Reality or Brahman. This Mudra helps you to move in blissful infinite consciousness of the supreme reality. It is considered to be the king of all gestures.
Khechara = Khe / Kha – space + Chara = to move
Mudra = gesture / mark / seal / posture
While there are many much more advanced methods of this Khechari Mudra, I like to keep things simple, with the respect that this should be practiced Constantly. Jarring it up with too many processes and procedures causes stagnation in the practice. This is in reality the Simplest practice you can take up and it is the most difficult in staying persistent enough to gain the real and valid benefits.
“Meditation must be continuous. The current of meditation must be present in all your activities. With practice, meditation and work can go on simultaneously.”
– Annamalai Swami
With the constant practice of this, you may overcome thirst, hunger, decay, and death. As I said it is very simple yet also it is a highly advanced practice and it may take years to master the technique. As you become more successful, you will be able to taste the Amrita nectar which flows from the roof of the nasal cavity. This nectar is said to energize the body and help to overcome the need for thirst and food. It has the taste of Honey or I liken it to Sherbet Ice Cream. This is also referred to as the Supreme Nectar and it has even been spoken of in the Bible in the Book of Ezekiel.
“And he said unto me, Son of man, cause thy belly to eat, and fill thy bowels with this roll that I give thee. Then did I eat it; and it was in my mouth as honey for sweetness.”
– Ezekiel 3:3 (KJV)
The advanced practitioner will have a similar experience that by the act of tasting the nectar, it is as if you are eating it as it will fill your belly and create clarity and nourishment for your mind and body. Through this mental clarity the nectar provides, it creates a mental space within which is filled with the Lord’s Blessings and intimate closeness with the supreme.
“I will make your tongue stick to the roof of your mouth, and you will be mute and unable to rebuke them, for they are a rebellious house. and I will make thy tongue cleave to the roof of thy mouth, that thou shalt be dumb, and shalt not be to them a reprover; for they are a rebellious house.”
– Ezekiel 3:26 (KJV)
In this passage, the messenger of God has Ezekiel stick his tongue to the roof of his mouth, so that he may not speak or rebuke them, for he must stay silent. Silence is often more powerful in any argument than combat in conversation.
I have been practicing this on and off, and now much more consistent during the past 10 years for a total of 22 Years. I was just a young man of 19 when I was initiated into Kriya Yoga by Shri Shibendu Lahiri, the great-grandson of the revered Lahiri Mahashay. Even while I have not been completely consistent with this practice, I typically spend long stretches averaging 6-8 hours per day in the practice. This is between casual conversations, eating, sleeping, etc. I have made tremendous gains within my spiritual practice and it has especially helped me during those times in life when I may not be able to meditate or perform my decrees and mantras. This is the thing you do, as much as possible whenever and with whatever circumstances you are working through. This is the thing that keeps you on track toward your next progression point.

THE BENEFITS
Pressing the Tongue to the Pallet of the mouth, with the Tip of the tongue pressed into the highest point in itself has the benefit of creating a focused mind. Just the technique itself makes one think of some action you are performing that is propelling you forward or pressing forward with a forcefulness that shatters all restraints and blockages in your day. You feel a new buoyancy like a feather seamlessly accomplishing each task of the day with flawless perfection.
The practice creates a persistent Joyfulness throughout the day, it’s like this bubbly feeling of happiness bellowing up from the base of your spice, and you begin to feel it in undulating waves of bliss. With perseverance, you will have momentous ecstatic orgasmic energy surging in a rush all of a sudden upward, which is often way too much to bear as it feels if you were a light bulb and you suddenly converted to high amplitude energy and you burst, with shattering shards being thrown outward in all directions. Expressions of Love and Forgiveness set it off, like the embrace of your loved one, or something as silly as a heartwarming ending of your favorite movie drama will send you into a tornado of joyful energy too much to handle and tears will build in you and burst forth.
You will notice a new vigor throughout your day, with the near illumination of thirst, hunger, and laziness. There is a sparkling effect all about your body, and you can almost feel your atoms, cells, and electrons being recharged rejuvenating your body to youthful vitality.
If you desire to simply open your third eye, there is no other method in comparison, as you will begin to feel a spreading apart on your brow, an opening and expansion and new clarity in your mind and vision will form. New powers of the mind, vision, and heart will manifest gradually one by one as you master each with clarity and understanding. Remember that nothing is ever unveiled to us until we are divinely ready no matter the length of practice, there are greater trials you must accomplish before all is reviled.
Astral traveling becomes easier through the use of this technique, you will more easily separate from your physical body. It stimulates all the chakras and helps balance the energetic pathways throughout the body. The entire body of the practitioner will be revitalized, as it enables you to raise the Kundalini energy and access various stores of amrita in the head. This subsequently floods the body with “Life Tronic Cells” propelling you into a state of universal awareness or Samadhi and Cosmic Consciousness within the Lord God.

THE TECHNIQUE
- Start with the tongue in a relaxed position with the tip lightly touching the back of the upper teeth.
- Press the point of the tongue at the roof of the pallet while the body of the tongue creates a suction cup effect.
- Roll the tongue up so that it touches the highest point where the roof of the mouth transitions to the pallet there is a small ridge you will press the point of the tongue into.
- Now try to push your tongue as far back as you can. Initially, you may just be able to touch the hard palate. Some may touch the soft palate also.
- Keep your tongue in a position where it touches the palate for as long as you are comfortable. Initially, you may just be able to manage this for a minute or less.
- Once your tongue starts to pain, release the tongue and bring it back to its normal position.
- This process should be continued until you will be able to hold the tongue in touch with the palate for a considerably longer duration.
With practice, you will be able to carry your tongue further back in position. Some day you might just touch the uvula at the back of your throat with your tongue. With further practice, your tongue can reach a point beyond the uvula. Next, the tongue should be able to enter the nasal cavity. After achieving this, you should be able to hold it there for a few minutes. While doing this, you can maintain normal breathing. You may observe your breathing rate will go down to 5-8 breaths per minute, and your heart rate may decrease to the 40-50 beats per minute range.
If you search the Khechari Mudra every single site will speak of the four stages until you actually can push your tongue to your nasal cavity. None of the other information out there says much about keeping this practice constant throughout the day, it’s just something you do during meditation. To reach stage four you must stretch the connecting tissue below the tongue or even cut the tissue which is not recommended as the untrained tongue can fall into the throat while sleeping. After my twenty-odd years of practicing this, I have never gone beyond the second stage, as I have never desired more. Just up to the second stage is sufficient to attain the benefits, so long as you practice this with an assertive constant activity.
When we open the energetic pathways of the body, we release the cosmic flow of energy for rejuvenation and transmutation of all vital organs, atoms, cells, and electrons making our foundation. These all connect together within an orbit of two of the main channels through the body. One travels up the spine and the other travels down the front of the body. While the tongue serves as the connection between the two channels, it also channels higher energetic energy into the body from your god-source or higher self. When the tongue is pressed against the roof of the mouth, it acts like a light switch that turns the circuit on. As our bodily system is electric in nature, these pathways channel this electricity-like circuitry all throughout, and in the practice of the Constant Kriya, you will even experience electrical discharges within your mouth cavity. When you become much stronger within this practice you will even feel a spark of electricity ignite whenever you press your tongue against the roof of your mouth.
In Conclusion
The process of this circulates the energy throughout the body, regulating the temperature so that even on a very hot or cold winter day the body stays at a comfortable temperature. It’s important through this process to have chastity within all the sense organs, as with anything if they are overstimulated, unbalanced and lethargy will follow suit.
