In today’s world, people seem more divided than ever, holding fiercely to their views, particularly political ones. Politics, though meant to enable us to live peacefully, has instead become a battleground for intense personal and ideological conflict. This strong focus on political opinion distracts us from life’s truer priorities—our families, our careers, and the things we create and cherish. Imagine a society where, instead of constantly engaging in political discourse, we talked more about the love and strength found in family, in meaningful work, and in creative pursuits.
One particularly divisive topic is abortion, a subject that often pits individuals and families against each other. Opinions on such matters are often shaped not by personal reflection but by external influences—the media, celebrities, or powerful organizations that subtly guide public opinion. These forces, sometimes motivated by agendas far removed from society’s true well-being, lead people to adopt viewpoints that may not reflect their true values or beliefs.
On sensitive issues like abortion, it’s easy to see how external voices shape opinions, sometimes even to the extent that people view an unborn child as simply “part of the body,” likening it to a tumor—an outlook that profoundly disconnects one from the miracle of life. A baby, after all, is nurtured by the body, and the body opens and expands to make space for it, a testament to the bond of life rather than a foreign invasion.
The power of opinion is potent. It can divide families, damage relationships, and, crucially, hinder personal growth. When we cling so tightly to these opinions, we often find ourselves locked in place, unable to progress or see beyond. Like many, I once held views simply because they seemed aligned with societal norms. I wasn’t sure what I truly believed. But once I had direct experiences—spiritual encounters, revelations from God—my perspectives shifted drastically. Real truth emerges from experience, from engaging directly with life and with God, rather than from relying solely on secondhand information or opinions.
One of the greatest challenges is realizing that to truly experience God, we must first empty ourselves of preconceived ideas and opinions. This state of emptiness is not one of absence but of openness, making space for God to reveal truth directly to us. When we are full of opinions, filled to the brim with the beliefs handed down by society or inherited from others, we create a barrier that prevents God’s presence from entering our lives.
The solution, then, is to take a break from all these external influences. Give yourself space—turn off the news, step away from social media, and disconnect from the constant stream of opinions and “truths” coming from the world around you. Feel the stillness within yourself, become aware of your presence, and notice the beauty and calm of the world immediately around you. As you do, you may notice those opinions and beliefs, no longer fed by external sources, begin to fade away, revealing a clear path to true understanding.
In this space of emptiness, God’s truth can enter, and we can begin to see with new eyes. It’s here, in this place free of distraction, that we find the strength to connect with our real priorities—family, creation, love, and unity—and the divine truth that lies beyond all opinions. Only by emptying ourselves can we truly be filled with what is real and eternal.
